Hi, I’m Juan Francisco Adame Lorite, a software engineer and engineering manager from Madrid, Spain.
I have been working with technology for more than 20 years. During this time I have worked as developer, software architect, product manager, project manager, security specialist and engineering manager. Different roles, but technology has always been the common point.
Today I work mainly around Artificial Intelligence, software engineering, cloud and cybersecurity. I currently lead an AI engineering team at Swiss Re, working on AI solutions for digital products. Before that, I spent eight years at Devo, a cybersecurity SaaS company, leading engineering teams and working on security analytics, cloud platforms, data-intensive systems and AI capabilities.
Even after moving into management, I have always tried to remain close to engineering. I still like designing architectures, writing code, reviewing technical decisions and experimenting with new technologies. I believe this technical connection is especially important when leading engineering teams.
In recent years, Artificial Intelligence has become one of my main areas of interest. I completed the Artificial Intelligence Professional Program at Stanford, studying Deep Learning, Generative AI and Reinforcement Learning. Since then, I have been spending a lot of time experimenting with LLMs, RAG, agents, MCP, retrieval, evaluation and other technologies around modern AI systems.
One of these experiments is Vatuta, a personal open-source project that started as a RAG system to help managers retrieve information from tools such as Jira, Confluence or Slack. It has gradually become a place where I can test ideas around retrieval, agents, tools, security, observability and AI architecture.
But this blog is not only about AI.
Bytes & Chips has existed for many years, and you can find here articles about software architecture, cybersecurity, cloud, distributed systems, programming and other technologies that I have found interesting during my career.
I normally write about things that I am learning, building or trying to understand better. Sometimes an article comes from a problem at work, sometimes from a personal project, and sometimes simply because I went too deep into a technical topic and thought it was worth writing it down.
This is not an academic blog, and I don’t pretend to have the definitive answer to the topics I write about. Most posts are based on practical experience, experiments, mistakes and the questions that appear while building real systems.
Writing is also a way for me to organize what I learn. If some of these notes are useful to somebody else, even better.
